St. Veith's Church in the Tartscher Bühel

Site Nr. 003

Lonely, visible from afar, the Church of St Veit stands on the Tartscher Bühel. The 11th century tower is among the earliest examples of an unconstructed tower. The present-day church was constructed towards the end of the 11th century on the remains of previous buildings as a simple nave with an offset semi-circular apse and flagstone roof. Fragments of Romanesque frescoes give an idea of the atmospheric decoration of the whole church interior. This church also shows signs of fire resulting from the Engadine War (1499).
