The double house at the lower end of the square in Scuol Sot attracts attention through its picturesque façade and boasts three balconies, two made of brick and one of wood. It was built on the foundation walls of a Benedictine monastery already documented in 1078 and still bears the Romansh name “claustra vedra”, which means nothing more than “old monastery”. The massive building adjoins the church mound of Scuol. The alleys wend their way past it on their way to the old bridge over the River Inn. Today the “claustra vedra” houses the local museum, which presents the local culture and related handicrafts in the rooms of an authentic Engadine house.
